Wigs by Hair Creations

Our mobile wig consultations are for those experiencing medical hair loss in the Auckland, Palmerston North and Nelson regions.

A Wigs by Haircreations consultant visits you in your home or at hospital to assist you with not only choosing a wig, but also giving support and advice on wig care and helping to guide you through the Ministry of Health subsidy process.

Is a mobile wig consultation right for you?

If you are facing medical hair loss you might be feeling overwhelmed with medical appointments related to your condition or illness. At Wigs NZ, we take the hassle out of wig appointments for people facing temporary and permanent hair loss conditions. We do this by bringing the wigs to you, in the privacy of your own home or to your hospital. You can ask friends, family, or no one if you’d prefer, to be with you during your appointment. All of our consultations are discreet and private – there is absolutely no obligation for you to purchase a wig. Should you choose to do so, we can help you navigate the Ministry of Health Wig Subsidy (of which we have a range of wigs to exactly meet the subsidy amount – meaning no extra cost to you).

Wigs NZ have a passion for helping people to look and feel their best, whatever they may be going through. Our aim is to help you to look good and feel better – this is also the name of a cancer support service that we work closely with, Look Good Feel Better (LGFB). LGFB offers free guidance, advice and make over workshops for people undergoing cancer treatment. We are a main sponsor of, and donor to, LGFB and our wig consultants participate in all LGFB Workshops nationwide.

We also work closely with the Cancer Society of New Zealand, ensuring that all patients (particularly those too unwell to leave hospital) can be visited by a consultant. Learn more about our work with these two amazing charities.

How does it work?

At a typical consultation you receive a comprehensive and holistic service. This is far more than us simply bringing a few wigs for you to try on.

Prior to your appointment we will have talked with you about your hair loss condition (eg. alopecia, chemotherapy or radiation treatment) and any lifestyle requirements you may have. We will also have discussed what you would like in terms of the hair length and style, and talked about the different types of wig/hair piece construction and what features you may need in a wig/hairpiece. This is so that we know what to bring with us to your appointment.

When we arrive for your appointment we are discreet and have no advertising on ourselves, or on our travel bag (which is the size of a bag you would take to the airport). We bring a large selection of wigs to the appointment, this will be the same amount that you would find in a wig shop, in your selected styles.

Of course, part of the service is you trying on the different types and styles of wig that we bring with us, so you can get an idea of what you like. We will then explain and demonstrate how to put the wig on yourself, and how to wash and care for your wig. We carry all of the relevant wig care products you’ll need to get to maintain your wig. We also bring along a wonderful selection of headwear for hair loss including bamboo sleep caps, softies, wraps, cotton elasticated scarves, sun hats and sun caps for when you are not wearing your wig. These are specialty headwear designed for ladies with hair loss

How can I prepare?

Read below for some tips on preparing for your mobile wig consultation:

  • Consider sending us a photo of yourself with hair if you’d like something similar to your previous hairstyle. This can really help us to select the right model and colours to bring to the appointment.
  • Have a look through the wigs on our website, make a note of some of the wig names and colours you like and pass these onto us before we come and see you.
  • Remember, if you normally have long hair and want to try short (or vice-versa) then make sure you let us know when making the appointment as we will arrive with wigs fitting the description you have given us.
  • You can try on wigs with or without hair, so don’t wait for it to fall out if you’re undergoing chemotherapy – it’s best to be prepared. Consider organising your appointment whilst you still have hair.
