General Tips for Caring for Your Wig or Hairpiece

In addition to the updated Ellen Wille wig care guides for synthetic and human hair wigs, we have some general wig care tips to share:

• Store your wig correctly when not in use – Wigs by Haircreations recommends you have a mannequin or wig stand to hold your wig when you aren’t wearing it. This will help your wig to hold its shape and style. If you don’t have either of these, a large jar can be used.
• Keep wigs away from direct heat – Always be mindful of the distance between you and heat sources. This is particularly important if you are wearing a standard synthetic wig but is good practice when wearing all wigs. It may be useful to wear a hat or scarf when cooking to protect your wig.
• Use products made for wigs – It’s really important that any products you use are wig specific. Using products that aren’t designed for wigs can cause a build up on the hair which can change the appearance and also mean the wig or hairpiece may not last as long.
• Have a second wig – This can be useful if one wig cannot be worn for a period of time, it also lengthens the lifespan of each wig as they can be worn alternately.
