Expert Tips for Researching, Choosing and Buying a Wig

Research and Getting the Right Advice: Where Do I Start?

Our medical wigs play a major part in helping women who have lost hair to feel confident again  We offer a caring service, with free, private and relaxing consultations with our Wig Consultants  We offer the exclusive range of Ellen Wille and Raquel Welch wigs

Getting started with wigs can be daunting; there’s a multitude of options, styles, cap constructions, sizes and textures. Without proper research and advice, many people fall into the trap of buying a wig that’s not right for them and are ultimately disappointed with their purchase in the long term. The best thing you can do if you haven’t had a wig before is to get solid advice from wig experts who have experience with different types of hair loss who can discuss the available options for your lifestyle and desired look.

We have wig consultants located throughout New Zealand who are highly experienced with hair loss in women, children, teens and men. They regularly meet with people in the privacy of their salon, or own homes to discuss options and provide advice for finding the right hair solutions. Gone are the heavy wigs and toupees of the past; today’s advanced hair technology means there are limitless hair solutions that are completely undetectable, but it is still important to get the right fit and hair for your lifestyle to ensure you will be 100% satisfied with the outcome. Depending on your type of hair loss, there are many different options to suit. Read our Understanding Hair Loss page for more information on the different types of hair loss.

Our experts provide free advice and consultations in a caring and understanding environment to help you explore options and regain confidence after losing your hair. We know that wigs and hair pieces can be a costly investment, so we advise on Medical Grants and what you are entitled to during your free consultation, and can then action your grant/subsidy personally at your request. We are an approved Ministry of Health (MOH) and ACC provider and don’t just ‘sell you a wig’: our support is ongoing, and based on more than 30 years experience – read more about our story and what you can expect from us here.

Buying Your Wig: What Are the Key Considerations?

Buying a wig safely

Sometimes we hear of our clients being misled into purchasing counterfeit wig products, or becoming victims of a scam. With so many sellers (especially online), it’s hard to know what to believe and where to buy from when the options are endless, so it’s important to stay smart when buying a wig. The main ways to stay safe when buying a wig are:

Choose Reputable Sellers

Like any investment, it pays to check the reviews and history of the company you are purchasing from to ensure they are reputable. Reputable companies have positive reviews, are forthcoming with contact and support information, and have secure websites. Specifically, check for:

  • Online reviews – review different reviews from different sources in your local geographic

  • Contact details – if something goes wrong, you’ll need to be able to contact them quickly

  • Secure websites – Check for the padlock and “https” in the website address bar

Beware of Counterfeits

The top quality wig brands are few and far between. We are dedicated to selling and protecting the Raquel Welch and Ellen Wille brands that have been proven over many years to be the best high quality wigs available on the market. By doing this, we protect you as our valued clients from fake sellers and counterfeit products. However, many websites selling these counterfeit products will take your money and not deliver your order, and they illegally use copyright protected images to promote their products.

Check the Price and Returns Policy

Many people get duped into buying wigs online, only to find when it arrives that it’s not right and there’s either no returns policy, or a policy that won’t allow an exchange or their money back. Be sure to check the returns policy to make sure there are no surprises before you hand over any money. Also, if the price seems too good to be true, sadly, it probably is. If the price seems too cheap, chances are the product is a counterfeit or copy of a genuine brand which means the quality and/or style will not be suitable.
